Mid Michigan Community College
While most people have the luxury of choosing which college to attend to, there are some people who cannot afford to go to the best schools. There are people who do not have the necessary resources required to go to these top institutions. These resources include time and finances. Thankfully, there are smaller schools that help these students overcome their limitations in order to pursue a college degree, while still providing the same top notch education. Among the best of these schools include Mid Michigan Community College.
Mid Michigan Community College, also known as MMCC, is a two-year college located in Harrison, Michigan. The school was founded in 1965. The school has three locations, including the main campus in Harrison and two satellite campuses in Mount Pleasant. The Harrison Campus sits on 560 acres of rural land. The main campus features most of the programs that the college offers, and it is the only campus with its own cafeteria and automotive lab. MMCC serves around 5,000 students annually.
Also near the campus is the M-TEC building that offers technological and vocational courses, such as computer aided drafting, welding, and certification programs such as getting a builder’s licensing and certified nursing assistant certificates. The campus is known for the park-like campus grounds with picnic tables, benches, and even charcoal grills. The main campus also has several for-student-use features such as a gym, treadmills, and exercise bikes.
The Mt. Pleasant campus is also called the Pickard Campus, after the street it’s located on. The main building consists of a three-story office which was converted into classrooms and administration for the Isabella County. This campus is best known for its vocational training, most notably in nursing, and its partnership with Central Michigan University, which is also found in Mount Pleasant.
In 2006, the college opened its third campus, a large science and allied health building in Mount Pleasant, called the Doan Center. The campus is located a mile south of the Pickard Campus. The new center has its own bookstore, a computer lab for computer classes, and an additional open computer lab for student lounges. The campus is still expanding and construction is still ongoing. The school colors are blue and white and the school nickname are the Lakers.
